Water from Air – Self Filling Water Bottles

Let’s begin from Wikipedia,

An atmospheric water generator (AWG) is a device that extracts water from humid ambient air. Water vapor in the air is condensed by cooling the air below its dew point, exposing the air to desiccants, or pressurizing the air. Unlike a dehumidifier, an AWG is designed to render the water potable. AWGs are useful where pure drinking water is difficult or impossible to obtain, because there is almost always a small amount of water in the air that can be extracted. The two primary techniques in use are cooling and desiccants. –Wikipedia

We all know that our air is a mixture of wide variety of substances, including vapor. Our basic physics taught us that a substance in vaporized form contains more energy than it’s liquid or solid form. So, in order to transform the vapor into liquid, we have to cool it, or pressurize it (just like we make cooking gas in liquid form) or using some other methods.
A smart group of people at FONTUS developed a solar-powered device that uses hydrophobic surfaces to repel and funnel the drops of condensation in the bottle, which in turn gives constant supply of clean drinking water.
How does it Work?
The self filling water bottle contains a small fan draws the air from the surrounding environment, runs it through a special filter and presses it into the condensation chambers. A series of small coolers bring the moisture contained in the air to condense on special surfaces. The resultant liquid water then drops into the bottle´s main body and is stored. The lower section of the bottle is designed to carry little capsules, which dissolved in the harvested water, initiate a process of re-mineralization. This process makes it possible to produce fresh mineral water and give your body everything it needs!

The solar panel used can also be connected to smart phones and tablets for charging. Currently the company is planning to add vitamins and minerals specific to the needs of the user.
You can support the project at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fontus-the-self-filling-water-bottles#/and make preorders. Currently Fonte AIRO cost $250 and will deliver the product by April 2017. At the time of this writing the crowdfunding campaign raised $308,597 which is 10X more than target (1029%).
Let’s hope that in the very near future we can start drinking water from air.
